Scholarships & Financial Assistance

The following scholarships and financial aid scheme are available to eligible Graduate students:

For Research Programme (PhD)
- Research Scholarship

For Juris Doctor Programme (JD)
- Graduate Scholarship (supported by the Tahir Foundation)

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM), except International Business Law
- Kwa Geok Choo Graduate Scholarship
- Graduate Scholarship (supported by the Tahir Foundation)
- Faculty Graduate Scholarship (FGS)
- Scholarship for Young Asian Academics (SYAA)
(Only Asian academics holding academic appointments at institutions of higher learning are eligible to apply.)

For Coursework Programme, LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law)
- Ella Cheong LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) Scholarship

For all Coursework Programmes (LLM), except Asian Legal Studies, International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution,  Maritime Law and International Business Law specializations
- Tuition Fee Loan
(Not applicable to international students in graduate Law coursework programmes)

 

 

Research Scholarship
Eligibility
Applicants must be university graduates with at least a second class honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent and have been admitted to or being assured of admission to our full-time Common Graduate Research Programme (CGRP).

Application Procedure
Applicants should indicate “Scholarship” under ‘Source of Finance’ when applying for admissions to the research programme. Please provide a one-page write-up on why you should be awarded a scholarship. The outcome will be made known at the same time as the admission outcome.

President’s Graduate Fellowships
Eligibility
PhD Research candidates who demonstrate exceptional promise for accomplishment in research will be considered for the award. A number of Fellowships are donor-funded: President’s Graduate Fellowship (funded by Lee Kong Chian Scholarship) and President’s Graduate Fellowship (funded by Jasmine Scholarship).

Application Procedure
Applicants should indicate “President’s Graduate Fellowships” under ‘Source of Finance’ when applying to the research programme. Please provide a one-page write-up on why you should be awarded a scholarship. For the President’s Graduate Fellowship (funded by Lee Kong Chian Scholarship), preference is given to candidates who exhibit leadership ability and commitment to community service. Please provide a record of co-curricular activities or community services. The outcome will be made known sometime in May.

Commonwealth Scholarship
Eligibility
The Scholarship is awarded to outstanding graduate students from Commonwealth countries for research leading to a higher degree at the University. This Scholarship is for new, incoming students who are not Singapore citizens or permanent residents.

Application Procedure
Applicants should indicate “Commonwealth Scholarship” under ‘Source of Finance’ when applying to the research programme. Please provide a one-page write-up on why you should be awarded a scholarship. The outcome will be made known sometime in May.

Kwa Geok Choo Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility
Outstanding applicants of any nationality (including Singapore citizens and permanent residents) may be awarded the Scholarship to pursue the LLM coursework degrees:

There is no bond of obligation on the scholar to serve the University or in Singapore. The scholarship will cover tuition fees. The Scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded.

Scholarship for Young Asian Academics
Eligibility

1. The scholarship is tenable for full-time coursework programmes leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LLM) or any of the specialist LLM degrees at this University.
2. Applicants must be holding academic appointments at higher-learning institutions and be university graduates with an LLB degree or equivalent.
3. The scholarship is available for award to outstanding Asian applicants, except Singapore citizens and permanent residents.

Ella Cheong LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) Scholarship

Eligibility
Outstanding applicants of any nationality (including Singapore citizens and permanent residents) may be awarded the Scholarship to pursue the LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law) degree programme.

Applicants with Intellectual Property related or scientific background are preferred.

Terms of award
There is no bond of obligation on the scholar to serve the University or in Singapore. The scholarship will cover tuition fees. The Scholarship is tenable only for the Academic Year in which it is awarded.

The scholar cannot be a concurrent holder of any other form of free aid such as grants, bursaries or scholarships without obtaining prior approval from the respective awarding bodies for the concurrent holding of the awards.
