Abstract	Abstract Title: Promotion and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in Asia: Exploring Ideal Models for Regional Cooperation The promotion and protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) is crucial for fostering innovation, creativity, and economic growth in Asia. As the region continues to emerge as a significant player in the global economy, the need for effective and harmonized IP systems has become increasingly important. This paper explores the current landscape of IPRs in Asia and examines potential models for regional cooperation, drawing inspiration from successful examples such as the European Patent Office (EPO) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO). Asia is home to diverse IP systems, with varying levels of development and implementation. While some countries have established robust IP frameworks, others are still in the process of building their capacities. This paper identifies the challenges and opportunities for regional cooperation in Asia, including the need for harmonization of IP laws, improved enforcement mechanisms, and enhanced capacity building. The paper proposes the establishment of a regional IP organization in Asia, modeled after the EPO and ARIPO, to facilitate cooperation and coordination among member states. The organization would aim to promote the sharing of best practices, provide technical assistance, and develop common standards for IP protection. The paper also discusses the potential benefits and challenges of such an organization, including the need for political commitment, institutional capacity building, and the balancing of competing interests. The proposed regional IP organization would have the potential to enhance the protection and promotion of IPRs in Asia, fostering innovation, creativity, and economic growth. The paper concludes by highlighting the importance of regional cooperation and the need for Asian countries to work together to address common IP challenges and seize opportunities for mutual benefit.
Biography	Prof. (Dr.) G.B. Reddy, appointed as Vice Chancellor of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi in May 2025, is a distinguished legal academician, prolific author, and seasoned administrator. Born in June 1967 in Hyderabad, Telangana, he transitioned from a successful legal practice to an illustrious academic career. Graduated with LL.B. and LL.M. (Constitutional Law) from Osmania University, securing three Gold Medals in LL.B. and one Gold Medal in LL.M. First candidate from Osmania University to qualify for UGC-JRF in Law (1993).Earned a Ph.D. in Law (1999) on “Supreme Court and Judicial Activism – Its Contribution in Specific Areas of Constitutional Law after 1980” Holds a PG Diploma in Human Rights from the University of Hyderabad ⚖️ Legal Practice & Academic Career.Practiced law for seven years at the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and original side courts in Hyderabad Senior Professor of Law at University College of Law, Osmania University Specialized in Constitutional Law, Judicial Activism, and Intellectual Property Rights.Authored 31 books, including: Women and Law, Judicial Activism in India, Copyright Law in India, Right to Information and Law, Constitution of India and Professional Ethics. Published 96 scholarly articles on law and related subjects and 50+ editorial pieces.Guided 22 Ph.D. scholars; currently mentoring six more Successfully led a UGC-sponsored major research project Offered 7 SWAYAM/MOOC courses (2019–2024) on topics like Human Rights, IPR, Environmental Law, and ADR.
