Title	The Legal Protection for Cross Cultural Acculturation Works in Indonesia
Abstract	Needless to note that, humans are known to create variety of intellectual works, contributing to the progress of civilization and the advancement of culture through artistry, creativity, and talent. The manifestation is attributable to stimulated creativity, often promoted by legal instruments. In the conception of Copyright Law, creativity needs to be evolved as an energy of civilization and a source of enrichment of cultural treasures. From a legal perspective, Copyright Law protects both new works and the results of cultural acculturation creations. In this context, one of the potential forms of creativity to be encouraged is the creation of new artistic works based on cultural acculturation. Indonesia also preserves several traditional works from foreign origins seamlessly integrated into the fabric of community traditions. Prominent instances include traditional Chinese music and Barongsai cultural dance, both of which have acculturated with Indonesian artistic works. This socio-legal research aimed to examine the potential problems encountered in the process of cultural acculturation from the legal, moral, and socio-political aspects. A comprehensive method was used, including statutory, historical, and comparative analyses. This study also analyzes the conception of cultural and traditional art as well as the relevance of Intellectual Property Rights protection, particularly on issues related to Copyright. The results showed that cultural acculturation was a neutral process capable of giving rise to unique, novel and improved creations, provided the process was executed carefully in the sense of respecting cultural values, ethical considerations, and legal norms properly. In the frame of creative economy, new creations resulting from acculturation possessed high commercial value in supporting the development of the national economy
Biography	Dr. V. Henry Soelistyo Budi is currently Head of Doctor Degree Program of Law, at Pelita Harapan University, Jakarta. Henry graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Diponegoro, Semarang. In 1993, he took a master degree in Commercial Law (LL.M.) in the University of London. In 2010 the University of Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Laws with a dissertation in Intellectual Property Rights. Henry was granted a scholarship to conduct a legal research on Copyright System and Protection in Australia, including a review on Australian Copyrights Collecting Societies. His intensive working on IPR matters set out when he was assigned as a member of the Indonesian delegates in various IPR negotiations in WIPO, GATT/WTO, APEC, and ASEAN. Henry has also participated as speaker in many seminars on IPR, in Indonesia and foreign including ASLI Conference. In 2017 he is appointed by WIPO as a member of the team formulating National Intellectual Property Strategy for Indonesia.
