Research Interests
Research Projects Scholars have argued that maritime custom and usages forms an important origin of modern maritime law by scholars. However, compared to other synonymous research on transnational commercial law, custom and usages in maritime law have not yet been fully explored. The existence of the so-called lex maritima is still sceptical and the function of maritime custom and usages as an industrial self-regulation instrument is not clear, especially in the new technology era. How to overcome the tension between positive law and maritime custom and usages is still debatable and the codification of maritime custom and usages is still problematic. Based upon an empirical, historical and comparative study, Wang Feng's research will provide a full picture of the theories of maritime custom and usages, its historical antecedents, the dilemma of its present application, and its future development.
