Application for Leave of Absence

Leave of absence (LOA) is classified into two categories:

»	Short Term
»	Long Term

In accordance with NUS administrative policies for Leave of Absence, no leave will be granted during official University examination periods (including Reading week).

Short Term LOA

Short term LOA generally refers to leave applications during the semester and can be classified into:

A.	For official reasons
1.	Bereavement in the immediate family - this normally refers to the loss of parent, grandparent, sibling, spouse or child.	Please submit your application, with supporting documents through the Education Records System (EduRec).   You will be notified by email once your leave application has been processed. If you require special considerations for your Continuous assessment (CA) – Assignments, Research Papers or Take Home Exams, please fill up the Special Consideration – Law Continuous Assessment (CA) form and upload it on EduRec when applying for the LOA.
2.	Official competition representing Singapore and/or NUS
3.	Medical Leave

 

B.	For unofficial reasons
	Reasons not stated above	Please submit the Notification form to lawundergrad@nus.edu.sg (for undergraduate/exchange students) or lawgrad@nus.edu.sg (for graduate students).   You will be notified by email once your leave notification has been recorded. This does not constitute official leave from NUS and you will not be entitled to special consideration or alternative arrangements during this period for these unofficial reasons.   In particular, submission of any Continuous Assessment (assignments, research papers or take-home exams) during this period is still expected. Likewise, you are required to be physically present for all Sit-down Final Examinations as published HERE. Failing to submit a continuous assessment task or to attend a Sit-down Final Examination will result presumptively in a mark of zero for that piece of assessment. This, in turn, may cause you to fail the affected course(s) and you may be required to make up the relevant number of units in additional semester(s).

 

Long Term LOA

Long term LOA refers to leave applications for one semester or more. Please note that students will be liable for all fees payable if the leave application is submitted after the first 2 instructional weeks of term.

Please submit your application, with supporting documents through the Education Records System (EduRec).

You will be notified by email once your leave application has been processed.

 

NUS Law has a team of Law Student Advisors who provides support to students through law school. Law students may approach them for consultation on matters ranging from managing law school stress, academic and other personal difficulties.
