Course Description:
The seminar is designed to prepare students to undertake original, academicresearch in law. Topics and questions to be covered include: what are the principal components of legal research (e.g., topic, thesis, data, variable, etc.); and the different ways these components play out in different kinds of legal research (e.g., doctrinal research, critical research, socio-legal studies, etc.). For classes, students will be asked to assess a variety of published papers. For the final paper, students will be asked to advance a hypothetical research proposal on a topic of their choosing, taking into account the research issues explored in our analyses of the class readings.
