Degree Requirements for Graduate Coursework Programmes

Students in the full-time Master of Laws (LLM) programmes must complete a total number of 40-44 units in one year. The students are allowed to register for 17-23 units of courses per semester. A student would typically read 20 units in a semester.

 

Part-time LLM (Maritime Law) students must complete a total number of 40-44 units in two years, reading 9-13 units of course per semester.

 

 

For Cohorts AY2021/2022 onwards:

Students from non-Common Law jurisdictions are required to take the following Common Law course in Semester 1:

(Students who have read and passed Company Law at NUS or its equivalent in a common law jurisdiction are exempted.)

LLM (Intellectual Property & Technology Law)

At least 24 units of courses must be taken from the Intellectual Property & Technology Law grouping, including the compulsory course – Law of Intellectual Property (8 units) OR Foundations of IP Law (5 units).

(Students who have read and passed a course on Intellectual Property Law at NUS or its equivalent in a common law jurisdiction are exempted.)

LLM (International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution)

* This course must be taken in first semester in the intensive six-week section as it is fundamental and should be taken before taking advanced courses during the one-week break of Sem 1 and during Sem 2

In addition to the three compulsory courses, you are required to take at least two of the following super-intensive elective courses that are conducted during the Semester’s Recess Week:

These super-intensive electives are taught by top arbitration specialists from around the world who cannot spend more than a few days with us given their busy schedule

Classes in ECUPL will be conducted in person only. The commencement date of Semester 2 varies from year to year but typically it starts no later than 2nd week of January. Students should take note of the commencement date for Semester 2 in any given academic year when making personal arrangements for the duration of their stay in Singapore.
