Course Information for LLM (International Business Law)
Students enrolled in the LLM programme are required
to complete a total of 40-44 units of courses in
order to be awarded the LLM degree. Students will be
offered a curriculum taught by local and
international faculty, designed to enhance the
learning environment and outcome. In addition, IBL
candidates will benefit from the bridging core
courses in common law and company law which are
customized for them.
SEMESTER 1
Students will spend the entire first semester in Singapore where they will enrol in at least 20 units of law elective courses at NUS Law School.
The academic calendar for Semester 1 will largely be the same as the other programmes conducted in NUS.

Common Law
Course
for Students from Non-Common Law Jurisdictions
Students with first law
degrees from non-common law jurisdictions are
required to read one special Common Law course
Singapore Common Law of Contract as part of the
unit requirement in Semester 1. The course
introduces civil law lawyers to the methodology and
reasoning used in the common law in Singapore.
Students who have conducted advanced studies in the common law in English or who have sufficient work experience in English in a common law jurisdiction, and who wish to be exempted from this course may submit applications for exemption, supported by evidence of relevant experience.
All applications must be received by the Faculty (lawgrad@nus.edu.sg) by 31 July. Applicants will be informed at the earliest opportunity of the outcome of such applications for exemption.
Students with first law degrees from common law jurisdictions are precluded from reading the Common Law course.

SEMESTER 2
Students will spend the entire second semester in Shanghai where they will enrol in at least 20 units of law elective courses at ECUPL.
Classes in ECUPL will be conducted in person only. The commencement date of Semester 2 varies from year to year but typically it starts no later than 2nd week of January. Students should take note of the commencement date for Semester 2 in any given academic year when making personal arrangements for the duration of their stay in Singapore.
