PhD Experience in NUS
I enrolled when the NUS motto was "Unleashing Minds, Transforming lives" (2006). I had the most challenging and difficult years doing empirical research for my dissertation - probably the first academic paper about golf and the law in the world. Thus, I had the most exacting obligation to bridge the academic gap, in theory and literature about the topic. I had to start from scratch, but my supervisor guided me through the intricacies of international and regional law. She helped me scrounge for data about golf course practices. Together, we took the hardest steps to present a "groundbreaking" and controversial topic. Clearly, my stint at NUS was a journey of self-discovery. The fruits of labor have taken shape, as the golf course industry adopts my recommendations. I hope to transform lives as NUS transformed mine!
