As the largest trading power and the second largest economy in the world, China has witnessed increasing participation in global governance. Top talents who can represent the country in international organizations and engage in international affairs are badly needed, particularly in the area of global economic governance. To meet such an urgent need of the country, the School of Trade Negotiations is established at the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) to fully leverage the university’s long-standing strength in the education of international trade professionals and the research of economics and trade.

As the flagship school of SUIBE, the School of Trade Negotiations is unique in its multi-disciplinary perspective. It is to offer both Bachelor’s programs and Mater’s Programs designed to produce students who wish to embark on a career in international trade and investment regulation and economics. The School aims to cultivate students who are familiar with China’s domestic policies and national situations, have a good understanding of international regulation in trade and economics, speak fluently English or other foreign languages and equipped with necessary negotiating skills. On graduation, they can go to work for the Chinese government as representatives in bilateral, regional or multilateral trade negotiations, or work for international organizations to provide assistance in trade negotiations, or work as legal professionals in non-governmental organizations or law firms.

In addition to our resident faculty, the School brings in leading trade experts from international organizations, law firms, policy research institutes and top universities. World-class scholars and practitioners recruited from international organizations, Chinese government departments, the leading universities, think tanks and global law firms will join in teaching and guidance.
