Course Description:
This course provides a detailed understanding of the role of central banks, their monetary policy operations, and the legal frameworks that draw limits on their activities. It focuses on the roles that central banks play as guardians of monetary and financial stability and discusses current developments. In its second part, the course analyses the concept of money, the changes to the understanding of money over time, and the current surge of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins as well as the concept of central bank digital currency.
