Feature Universitas Pelita Harapan hosts 18th Asian Law Institute Virtual Conference Universitas Pelita Harapan hosted the 18th Asian Law Institute (ASLI) Conference, virtually, from 15 to 17 September 2021.Organised annually by ASLI, the conference provides a platform for legal academics and scholars from ASLI member institutions, as well as from Asia and beyond, to present their research and examine contemporary legal issues of interest to Asian jurisdictions. The theme for the conference was "Law, Technology, and Diversity in Asia". The virtual conference opened with speeches from Dr (Hon) Jonathan L Parapak (Rector of Universitas Pelita Harapan), Professor Tsung-Fu Chen (Dean of College of Law, National Taiwan University) and Associate Professor Kelry Loi (Co-Director, ASLI). The keynote address was delivered by Professor Mohammad Mahfud, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Defense, Republic of Indonesia. More than 106 participants attended the Opening of the Conference and a total of 122 papers were presented over the three days. The Conference covered legal issues related to a wide variety of subjects that include Information Technology Law, Criminal Law, International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, Constitutional & Admin Law, Law & Society, Competition Law, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Rights, among others. As with previous conferences, there was an Open Forum on the first day of the Conference to provide an opportunity to update the members on latest developments and invite ASLI members and conference attendees to ask questions and share their opinions. After three full days of papers and presentations, the conference came to a close in the morning of 17 September 2021 with a presentation on the 19th ASLI Conference by Professor Shiraishi Tadashi, Vice Dean, University of Tokyo (Graduate Schools for Law and Politics) and his colleagues, and Closing Remarks from Associate Professor Dr Henry Soelistyo Budi (Universitas Pelita Harapan) and Associate Professor Kelry Loi (Co-Director, ASLI).
