Submit an Event

The Asian Law Institute (ASLI) encourages individuals from Founding and Members Institutions to propose research in Asian Law. This document outlines the forms of ASLI’s involvement in external events and the procedure for having ASLI’s endorsement in each case.

Research Events

Research workshops and symposia are intended to generate high level scholarly output. It typically involves a small group of scholars led by a Principal Investigator presenting papers on a focused area of research over two days. The papers must then be published, usually in the form of a monograph, edited volume or special issue of a journal. Participants at these workshops need not all come from ASLI founding or member institutions, although it is desirable that a significant number are from ASLI institutions.

To propose such an event, please write to the ASLI Secretariat (through asli@nus.edu.sg) outlining details including the subject of the research, the potential participants, the projected output, date and location of the workshop as well as the funding support that has been secured. For the moment, ASLI does not have funds to support projects on its own and therefore, these projects have to be self-funding. ASLI may provide limited secretarial support subject to budgetary and institutional constraints, and publicize the event on its website. For projects involving an NUS academic as a Principal Investigator, research funds may be available through the NUS Academic Research Fund Grants on a competitive basis.

Regional Events

Regional events need not have the research output required under the Research events and may include conferences, seminars, workshops or meetings. These are not viewed as ASLI events, but are events to which ASLI is happy to lend its name for advertising and branding purposes, and publicize the event on its website.

To propose such an event, please write to the ASLI Secretariat (through asli@nus.edu.sg) outlining details including the nature of the event, the potential participants, the projected output as well as date and location of the event.

Advertised Events

A third category of events relates to events that are simply advertised on ASLI’s website although ASLI will have no involvement or endorsement of the event. Such events will be listed on the ASLI website with the relevant information.

To propose such an event, please write to the ASLI Secretariat (through asli@nus.edu.sg) outlining details of the event and information that should be included on the website.
