History of ASLI Conference

ASLI organises annual academic conferences hosted by its founding member institutions on a rotating basis. These conferences examine contemporary legal issues of interest to Asian countries and gather scholars and experts from the member institutions as well as from Asia and beyond.

The inaugural conference was held on 27th and 28th May 2004 hosted by the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, and the second conference was hosted by Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok on 26th and 27th May 2005. The third conference, hosted by the East China University of Politics and Law in Shanghai, was held on 25th and 26th May 2006, and the University of Indonesia hosted the fourth ASLI Conference on Thursday and Friday, 24th and 25th May 2007. The fifth ASLI Conference was hosted by the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore on 22nd and 23rd May 2008.

ASLI welcomes legal scholars, both from ASLI founding institutions as well as other institutions within and outside Asia, to attend and present papers at its annual conference. The conference is open to all, whether or not they present a paper. The conference provides excellent opportunities for scholars in Asian law to meet and exchange ideas and to form closer working and personal relationships.

The University of Hong Kong will host the sixth ASLI Conference on Friday and Saturday, 29th and 30th May 2009.
