Course Description:
This course is meant to introduce students to the basic principles of criminal liability and defences with reference to a range of offences found in various statutes. Topics covered will include strict liability offences, criminal negligence and recklessness, crimes of violence and sexual offences. The aim of the course is not to teach the details of particular offences but rather to equip students with the tools necessary to function in practice. Students are strongly encouraged to think and express their views.
