Charterparties
Last Updated Date:   4 July 2025

5 Units,  Semester 2

Course Description:
This course will focus on charterparties, contracts between the shipowner and the charterer for the hire of the vessel, either for a specific voyage (voyage charterparties) or over a period of time (time charterparties). There are, in addition, other variants of these basic types, such as bareboat charterparties, which will also be referred to. This course will examine the standard forms for each of the charter parties being studied, as well as the main terms and the legal relationship between the shipowner and the charterer. This dynamic and important aspect of the law on the carriage of goods by sea is frequently the subject of arbitral proceedings and court decisions.
