5 Units, Semester 1
Course Description:
This course takes a problem-oriented approach to public international law, and aims to teach students effective written and oral advocacy. Students will be provided with a fictional fact pattern which engages principles of public international law. Through our in-class exercises, students will learn among other things the basic principles of public international law, the framework for analysing international legal disputes, and how to construct and draft persuasive arguments based on legal precedent, general principles, policy, and facts. Prior public international law knowledge is not a requirement. There will also be weekly moot sessions culminating in a final assessment moot through which students will have the opportunity to learn and hone oral advocacy skills with the guidance of the tutors, our international moot coaches, as well as our moot alumni.
