International Legal Process

Course Description:
This course takes a problem-oriented approach to public international law. Its primary objective is to provide students with an understanding of the basic principles of public international law and a framework for analysing international legal disputes. Students will be assigned to argue a fictional fact pattern engaging issues of public international law for our in-class exercises. This will be used to illustrate the basic principles of public international law applicable in an international dispute. Its second objective is to teach students how to research points of international law and to construct persuasive arguments based on legal precedent, general principles, policy and facts.

Mode of Assessment: Memorial - 40%; Class Performance - 20% & Oral Argument - 40%

Preclusions: Open only to students who have obtained prior approval of the convenor.

Prerequisites: NUS Compulsory Core Law Curriculum or common law equivalent.

Note:(i) LLM students who have not qualified to practice in any jurisdiction. (ii) Exchange students who are committed to being in Singapore on Full Year exchange and have not qualified to practice in any jurisdiction.

Examination Date: 100% Continuous Assessment
