Family Law and Practice
Last Updated Date: 28 October 2025
5 Units, Semester 2
Course Description:
When families are intact and functioning, Family Law is slow to intervene in the family. What happens when cracks begin to show in the familial relationships?
This course focuses on non-Muslim family law and practice in Singapore, with an emphasis on issues in relation to the formation of marriage, separation (including divorce, nullity, and judicial separation), and ancillary matters (including the division of matrimonial assets, maintenance, marital agreements, and care arrangements of the child). It equips students with a strong foundation of substantive family law in Singapore alongside some comparative perspectives, and an understanding of how therapeutic justice applies in family justice.
