Specialised Topics in Family Law
Last Updated Date: 12 July 2024
5 Units, Semester 2
Course Description:
Against the backdrop of an increasingly globalised world, Family Law has undergone a sea change. Divorces often feature international and cross-border elements, such that knowledge of domestic family law alone is insufficient. This course will cover specialised topics such as international child abduction, conflict of laws, relocation, enforcement of foreign orders and financial relief consequent on foreign divorces.
This course will also encompass other contemporary issues in family law – e.g. non-traditional family units, injunctions in matrimonial litigation, alternate dispute resolution. Students will be introduced to the procedural and practical aspects of family law litigation.
