Course Description:
The course aims to provide an overview of the most important classic and contemporary texts that address the questions of criminalization and punishment. The course thus considers how theorists have understood the concept of “crime” and the justification of the state’s use of penal sanctions. The course combines engagement with the original texts together with secondary literature to help students to understand the context and content of the authors’ arguments.
