Dean's Message ![]() Dear Distinguished Scholars, It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I extend to you a warm invitation to the 23rd ASLI Annual Conference 2026, which will be hosted by the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, in Depok, Indonesia. We are deeply privileged to welcome this prestigious gathering of scholars, practitioners, and students from across Asia and beyond. The theme of this year’s conference, "Empowering Asia’s Rise: Legal Knowledge for Sustainability, Justice and Regional Integration," reflects our collective aspiration to situate law within the broader social, cultural, economic, and political realities of our time. As Asia continues to rise on the global stage, the development of legal knowledge that advances sustainability, justice, and integration is more critical than ever. This vision echoes the enduring legacy of the Bandung Declaration of 1955, which championed solidarity, peaceful cooperation, and mutual development among Asian and African nations. In this spirit, the conference aims to reinvigorate regional dialogue and legal innovation that support a more equitable and collaborative future. Through ASLI, we seek to foster meaningful dialogue and scholarship that not only interprets the law, but also engages with the challenges and opportunities of transformation in our region. Founded in 1924, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, is the oldest law school in the country and has long been a pioneer in legal education and research. Our Faculty stands at the heart of Indonesia’s vibrant legal and academic landscape, committed to nurturing future generations of jurists and contributing to pressing debates in law and society. We are honored to serve as a hub where ideas converge, and new collaborations are born. Indonesia, as the world’s largest archipelagic nation and the third-largest democracy, offers a unique vantage point for reflecting on the intersections of law, society, and development. Depok, home to Universitas Indonesia, provides a dynamic academic environment that is only a short distance from Jakarta, the capital city, with its rich blend of tradition and modernity. We warmly invite you to explore not only the intellectual richness of the conference, but also the cultural and social vibrancy of Indonesia. On behalf of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, I look forward with great anticipation to welcoming you to ASLI Conference 2026. May our gathering serve as a catalyst for knowledge, collaboration, and enduring friendships that contribute to building a more just, sustainable, and integrated future for Asia and the world.
