| Offences Created by the Computer Misuse Act 1993 Lee, Christopher [1994] Sing JLS 263 (Dec)This article examines the terminology used in defining the offences created by the Computer Misuse Act 1993. Comparison is made with similar legislation from other jurisdictions which influenced its drafting, particularly in the United Kingdom Computer Misuse Act 1990. It appears that the guiding principle behind the drafting of this Act is comprehensiveness - the offences are framed so as to cover every conceivable misuse of computers but this has been achieved only at the cost of ease of interpretation.

| The Legal Position of Parents and Children in English Law Lowe, Nigel [1994] Sing JLS 332 (Dec)This article examines the changing nature of the legal position of parents and children under English law from the nineteenth century to the present day. The article discusses the leading cases and considers both the significance of the Children's Act 1989 and the possible impact of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. It concludes that notwithstanding the radical change over the last century, English law still essentially takes an "adult view" of what is best for the child and does not accord mature children autonomy rights.

Most young plaintiffs would not have a relevant pre-injury salary that could be used in the computation. It is argued that a national "average" wage should be used unless there is evidence to support a different figure.

| Of Warranties and Terms Delimiting Risks in Insurance Contracts Yeo, Hwee Ying [1994] Sing JLS 369 (Dec)The term "warranty" in insurance law (more so than its counterpart in general contract law) is a critical term entailing severe consequences. Accordingly, many a sympathetic judge has often been constrained to construe a warranty to be a lesser term - in particular, a term delimiting a risk which functions a suspensive condition. The paper attempts to examine when it is possible to distinguish one from the other, to explore the consequences of the breach of such a warranty , and to determine whether there is a distinction in this regard between the marine and non-marine regimes.
